Job Summary
The Manager of Field Services and Construction is responsible for the day to day operations of the field group which includes the Party Chiefs and Chainmen. This individual is responsible for all the management duties associated with the field including briefings and debriefings, evaluations, project guidance, etc. This person is also responsible for managing the Construction Survey division of Calvada Surveying (the Company).
Summary of Essential Job Function
- Responsible for Business Development of the Company’s Construction Division including identify bids, qualifying bids, drafting price quotes/proposals, determine the projected profitability, etc.
- Ensure that ALL jobs are profitable (especially the Construction jobs)
- Manage all risk to avoid any chargeback (especially with the Construction jobs)
- Crew Scheduling – Coordinate with Project Managers
- Know what work effort is expected from our project manager and/or the client – know the scope of work.
- Know job budgets
- Make sure Extras are identified and extra work forms are signed
- Make sure Party Chief is familiar with the scope of work so that extras can be identified and accounted for.
- Be aware of each crew member’s capabilities and weaknesses. Assign jobs and/or provide training to maximize the strong points and improve the weak points.
- For each job, with input from the Party Chief, determine what the best approach is and what equipment to use to get the most efficient and cost effective result.
- Responsible for taking requests from clients for field work
- Be liaison and maintain relations with client job superintendent and project managers

- Directions to Site
- Cut Sheets
- Supervise research as necessary
- Prepare and/or review construction calcs, prepare cut-sheets when possible
- Crew briefing and de-briefing – Coordinate with Project Managers
- Implement and enforce use of standard point code/descriptors
- Implement and enforce standard field policies and procedures
- Responsible for on time-in budget completion of jobs
- Oversee & check field crew deliverables to make sure Field-to-Finish is completed as efficiently as possible
- Establish and implement a field personnel training program
- Stay up to date with new technology and make recommendations for its use.
- Responsible for condition of equipment and recommendation as to when new equipment (vehicles and survey equipment) is needed, what is needed, determine the costs.
- Field personnel evaluations
- Prepare an annual estimate of new equipment needs and costs
- Interview potential new hires and provide recommendations
- Institute & review proper survey procedures
- Prepare and implement field safety plan and procedures
- Make site visits as necessary to check field policy and procedures
- Develop a teamwork/mutual support atmosphere
- Be a mentor – teacher
Requirements
- Min of 10 years experience in a wide range of survey projects and must be an expert in Construction.
- Must have been a Construction Manager for a land survey company in the past.
- PLS preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Word and Excel
- Must have contacts and a strong relationship with local General Contractors
- Must have excellent management skills including:
